Act within the hour
Pick it up by the crown, not the root, rinse gently without scrubbing, and if you can, place it back in the socket. If not, keep it in milk and get to us within 30–60 minutes.
Save the pieces
Keep any fragments, rinse your mouth with warm water, and use a cold compress on the outside to ease swelling. Call us to be seen.
Ease the pain
Rinse with warm salt water, floss gently to clear trapped food, and take over-the-counter pain relief as directed. Don't place aspirin directly on the gum.
Protect the tooth
Keep the crown if you have it. Avoid chewing on that side; pharmacy temporary dental cement can protect it until we re-cement it.
Don't wait it out
Rinse with salt water and call us promptly — infections need timely care. If swelling affects your breathing or swallowing, seek emergency medical care.
Apply gentle pressure
Press clean gauze on the area for 10–15 minutes. If bleeding is heavy or won't stop, go to the nearest ER.
