So what is a root canal?
Inside every tooth is a soft core called the pulp. When decay, a crack, or an injury lets bacteria reach it, the pulp becomes infected — and that's what causes the throbbing pain.
A root canal simply removes that infected pulp, cleans and disinfects the inside of the tooth, and seals it up. The pain goes, the infection clears, and you keep your natural tooth instead of losing it.
